Md. lawmakers override veto of marijuana paraphernalia bill

(AP) – The Maryland General Assembly has overridden Gov. Larry Hogan’s veto of a bill decriminalizing the possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Both the Senate and the House also voted Thursday to override the Republican governor’s veto of a measure to ensure that third-party travel websites pay all of the state’s sales tax.

Democrats control both chambers, which had the three-fifths majority needed to override the vetoes.

Maryland decriminalized possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana in 2013. Supporters say the paraphernalia bill was designed to be consistent with that change. The bill also decriminalizes smoking pot in public.

The Senate postponed until Feb. 5 a vote to override a veto of a bill to allow felons to vote while on parole or probation. The House voted to override that bill Wednesday.
