Matel introduces three new Barbie’s

For years she was blond with sparkling blue eyes then slowly and through no shortage of controversy, Barbie dolls started to try to represent the actual world in terms of skin color and proportions. She’s once again getting a new look.

Mattel has decided to come out with three new dolls with different body types. They will soon offer tall barbie, petite barbie and curvy barbie. 47 ABC spoke with Dr. Kathryn Seifert about what message this may send to young kids.

Dr. Seifert tells 47 ABC, “I actually love it. What we want to do is normalize the fact that’s there’s all sizes and shapes and colors of people out there. Girls, ladies, women we come in all shapes and sizes and colors and that’s the reality of our world.”

Dr. Seifert says young children are very much influenced by what they see around them, whether it be the doll in their hand or what they see on TV, by putting these dolls on the shelves it makes kids feel more inclusive in society and teaches them that no matter what size, shape or color you are, you are beautiful. The new Barbie’s are currently available on Mattel’s website for pre order.
