Members of the Maryland State Police (MSP) and Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) have announced snow emergency plans set to go into effect at noon Friday.

According to SHA, the statewide Snow Emergency requires vehicles restrict traveling on all highways designated as snow emergency routes be equipped with chains, snow tires, or all-season radials. SHA also wants to remind drivers that special hauling permits are invalid during snow emergencies.

Under the snow emergency plan, MSP will be allowed to call tow companies to remove abandoned vehicles in the road or on the shoulder, and restricts all parking on designated snow emergency routes.

“It is important for all Marylanders heed Governor Hogan’s warning about the coming storm and to make every effort to refrain from travel through the weekend,” SHA reports MSP Superintendent William Pallozzi said.

According to a release from SHA, with heavy snowfall up to two feet and ice accumulation, cleanup will take several days and extend into early next week.

SHA maintains the numbered roads in each county in Maryland, with the exception of toll roads.

Folks on the eastern shore of Maryland anywhere from 12 to three inches of snow.
