Maryland House votes to override veto on felons voting bill

(AP) – The Maryland House of Delegates has voted to override Gov. Larry Hogan’s veto of a bill that would allow felons to vote while they are on parole or probation.
    
The House voted 85-56 to override the veto on Wednesday.
    
That was the minimum number of votes needed to override the veto in the House. The state Senate also would need a three-fifths vote to override the veto.
    
Hogan, a Republican, vetoed the measure in May. In his veto message, Hogan wrote that people on parole or mandatory supervision are still serving their time as a debt to society for their actions.
    
Supporters say restoring voting rights is an important part of transitioning them back into society.
