Martin Comes Up Clutch As UMES Tops BCU

Devin Martin came up big when it mattered the most down the stretch for UMES as the Hawks defeated Bethune-Cookman 74-72. The win improves the Hawks to 5-16 on the year.
UMES would come out of the gates and have it going as Dominique Elliott would be going to work on the block. The big fella would deliver a couple buckets in the post to get the offense going, but the Wildcats would come storming back, using the long ball. Jordan Potts would control the pace of the game, hitting 5 three’s, while also setting up his teammates for easy scores themselves. UMES would answer as Ryan Andino would hit a 3 late to help the Hawks take a 1 point lead into the break. The Wildcats would come out firing in the second half and would grab a small lead with under 10 minutes to play. That’s when Elliott would show off his passing, finding Derrico Peck on three straight back doors for lay ins. Elliott then showed off a nice touch in the mid post as he would finish the night with 18 Pts, 10 Rbs and 3 Ast. The Hawks would have a 3 point lead late til Potts would connect on a straight away 3 to tie up the game with 30 seconds left. That’s when Martin would take over. He would work his way into the lane, then hit a turn around from the elbow to give his team a 2 point lead. The Wildcats would then run a curl for Potts who would get to the rack, but Martin would slide over defensively and take the charge. UMES would get fouled and have a chance to ice the game at the line, but missed the front end of a 1 and 1. The Wildcats would bring up the ball and Potts would launch a three at the buzzer, but it would be off the mark and the Hawks would hold on for the win.
