Man sentenced to 3 years for filing false tax returns

(AP) – A man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for using stolen identities to file fraudulent federal tax returns.
Twenty-five-year-old Victor Asante of Newark was also ordered to pay nearly $260,000 in restitution at sentencing Wednesday in federal court in Wilmington, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say Asante got identifying patient information from a conspirator who worked at a neuro-rehabilitation center. In addition to filed false tax returns, authorities say Asante stole from the victims’ credit card, annuity and other financial accounts.
