Making sure your crops are covered

Farmland, crops, equipment all can be insured, like just about anything else. So Friday Maryland’s agriculture secretary and insurance commissioner met with farmers and insurance agents in Cambridge.

It was a first of its kind meeting, designed to get everyone informed and on the same page about any geographical issue that might arise when trying to get coverage and touch on the level of insurance available on the shore.

One the things brought up, need for farmers to be aware that when they invite the public on to their land for things like hay rides and corn maze tours, that additional coverage is needed.

“When you have folks come on to your farm there’s a whole new additional level of risk, exposure to risk that folks need to account for,” said Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer Jr.

Officials say more meetings like this will be planned throughout the state, although no definite dates have been set yet.
