Lady Hawks let one slip away at home

The UMES women’s basketball team fell to 1-2 in MEAC play, falling 77-69 in overtime to Morgan State on Monday night at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

The Hawks jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first, before Morgan came back to tie the game up at 28 at the half. The Hawks held a lead late in the fourth quarter until Morgan tied the game up on a jumper by Braennan Farrar with 12 seconds to go. In overtime, the Bears out scored UMES 17-9 in the overtime to take the win.

Farrar led Morgan with a game-high 27 points and added 7 rebounds. Bears center Lexus Spears scored 10 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the win. Ciani Byrom led the Hawks with 17 points, while Moe Subritzky had 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists in the loss.
