In Easton officials warn for icy night ahead

In Easton. Md. officials say snow removal crews have been working around the clock since Friday to clear off roads and keep people safe.

By mid-day Sunday, authorities tell 47 ABC that most of the major roads were cleared off, but that many side roads and parking lots are still covered with snow.

Even though the storm is behind us, public safety officials are asking people to stay off the roads until at least Monday.

Officials say they are still trying to push snow further off the road, so that when it melts it doesn’t freeze overnight.

According to the Maryland Highway Safety Administration the effort they’ve seen over the weekend has been the best response in recent years.

“These folks have been here since Friday nonstop, all of our shops up and down the shore. We’ve had them out there on the roads, we’ve had contractors in here doing a great job and I think the same can be said for the county and the town folk as well, you know they’ve been out plowing, salting and it’s just been a non-stop effort,” said Bob Rager, with Maryland HSA.

Officials say they will continue to salt roads over until at least Wednesday.

However they caution that when the road temperature dips below 20 degrees that salt is ineffective.

They’re also reminding people to clean off their headlights and taillights, as the salt can reduce their effectiveness.
