How to avoid tax scammers

After working hard at your job to earn your money, the last thing you want is have it taken away from you by a scammer during tax season. Thomas Hudson of Twilley Rommel and Stephens says the biggest sign that you’re getting scammed? A phone call from the IRS.
Hudson says the only way the IRS will ever communicate with you is through the mail. Hudson says identity theft is also a huge problem, especially here on the Eastern Shore.
Hudson tells 47 ABC, “It’s important to always be cognitive of tax scams because they happen at all times during the year. Folks will steal your information and then try to file a return on your behalf and then get your refund.”
Hudson also advises that if you have a simple tax return, to get it done as quickly as possible to avoid possible headaches.
