How to achieve fitness resolutions

Some of us start out the new year with plans to eat healthier and work out, but sometimes those plans go out the window after the first few weeks.

We all see it so often, gyms are packed the first few weeks into the year after people make it their resolution to lose weight and get fit. However, a few months into the year the gym starts becoming a little more empty.

Courtney Moore, the general manager at Olympia Fitness Clubs says,”They don’t give it a chance. You have to find what inspires you, what motivates you.”

A lot of people get intimidated walking into the gym especially when it comes to using the equipment and what exercises to do.  The best thing to do it is ask!

“Definitely talking to the front desk, seeing what kind of assessments are available to meet with a personal trainer. To use the cardio equipment. The weight equipment. To actually go in and take some classes,” says Moore.

Also, if you can take someone to workout with you, that is even better.

Nicole Ingley, a group fitness instructor at Olympia says, “You’re accountable by coming to meet your friend there. You motivate each other. You have each other’s back. And when you workout with someone it’s more fun.”

However, the biggest tip to achieving your resolution is to set short term goals, because weight loss does not happen over night.

“Maybe one week at a time, one day at a time. If you don’t get in knew time don’t be hard on yourself just come in the next day and set goals for the week, and then for the month, and then maybe quarterly, and then for the year,” says Moore.
