Homeless man charged in Dover church burglary

Tywon Mack, 21, homeless

Police in Dover say a fingerprint has led to an arrest in the investigation into a theft from a local church.

Dover Police say they have arrested 21-year-old Tywon Mack, for the burglary of a Dover church. Sometime between 12:00 PM on December 31, and 12:30 PM on January 2, Mack used a brick to break a window at the Wesley United Methodist Church on E. Loockerman Street, where he then took an undisclosed amount of cash from throughout the church, before leaving, according to their report.

Investigators say they were able to use items from the church to process for fingerprints. Police say on January 5 at 12:35 AM, Mack once again threw a brick through the same window of the church, but apparently didn’t go inside, because the churches audible alarm system sounded, startling him.

Later in the day, Investigators say the Delaware State Police Bureau of Identification identified the fingerprints from the first burglary as Tywon Mack. He was then arrested on January 9, when Officers say they responded to a call of a suspicious person pulling on the doors of another local church, and found Mack.

He was charged with third degree burglary, two counts of theft under $1,500, trespass second degree, two counts of criminal mischief, and attempted third degree burglary. Mack was ordered to be held on a $3,300 secured bond.
