Harrington PD has a new furry friend

The Harrington Police Department is starting off the new year announcing some additions to their staff one of them being a K-9 officer. The department had a K-9 a few years back, but they recently received a grant to get one. The purpose of the dog is to patrol as well as narcotics. We’re told it’s been 15 years since they’ve had a dog for both patrolling and narcotics.
The K-9 finished training in North Carolina with one of the Harrington officers and will now be riding around with members of the department.
“Well he’ll a dual purpose dog so he will do patrolling near and narcotics which will aid us in a lot of ways. You know to help us with drug issues and also if we have large parties or large crowds that the dog will be able to help us also with deterrent and all that,” says Chief Norman Barlow.
The department also recently hired a full-time community outreach officer to organize community events in the upcoming weeks.
