DSU celebrates MLK holiday as day “on”, not “off”

Many students and employees had Monday off in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. but folks at Delaware State University looked at this holiday as a day on, not off.
Hundreds of people flooded their Theatre, Education and Humanities building on campus Monday afternoon for their 30th holiday program honoring Dr. King.
The Sankofa African Dance Company performed two dances.
We’re told they spend about three to four hours each week practicing in their Downtown Dover studio. The dances were dedicated to Dr. King.
Quandaja Jernigan, a dancer in the group, has been dancing for about 11 years.
“I want the audience to know that this is something that I really love doing.” She says. “I’ve been doing it for so many years and to be able to do it on a special day like today, it’s a dream come true.”.
Jernigan says their company is a family and they welcome newcomers.
