Del. Volunteer Firefighter’s Association warning of phone scam

A local organization is warning Delaware residents of a phone scam, that is apparently having callers pose as part of the group.

The Delaware Volunteer Firefighter’s Association says over the past few weeks, they have received a number of calls about telephone solicitations. Officials say these calls are not coming from them, as they don’t solicit donations over the phone.

The calls are apparently coming from a 302 area code, but likely aren’t from Delaware, according to the release. The Firefighter’s Association says some of the calls are saying they are with the firefighters and paramedics association, while others are saying they are funding burn centers. In Delaware, Officials say, there is no firefighters and paramedics association.

The Attorney General’s Office has apparently been notified, and is investigating. The Firefighter’s Association is asking those who receive such a call, to get the callers’ phone number, and any other information. They say to not make a commitment for payment, without verifying with the Attorney General’s Office Fraud Division.
