Del. governor issues driving ban

Delaware Gov. Jack Markell has issued a driving ban as a winter storm continues to dump snow and sleet on the mid-Atlantic region.

The ban took effect at 8 a.m. Saturday and applies to all motorists in New Castle and Kent Counties except for essential personnel and those who have received waivers from emergency management officials.

A blizzard warning remains in effect for New Castle and Kent counties, and a winter storm warning in Sussex County, which is being hit with coastal flooding and strong winds.

A state of emergency also remains in effect.

Officials say about 8 to 10 inches of snow have been reported in parts of New Castle and Kent Counties, and 2 to 4 inches in most of Sussex, increasing to about 7 inches in Laurel.
