Decatur Keeps Pace In South, Edges Parkside

The Stephen Decatur boys basketball team picked up a big conference win at home Thursday night when they defeated Parkside 74-63. The win improves the Seahawks to 10-2, while the loss drops the Rams to 9-3.
The Rams would jump out to a quick lead in the first. Their press would force a couple turnovers, and with Gary Briddell leading the break, he would find Tyrese Purnell and Raequan Williams for a couple easy lay ins. They would take a 3 point lead into the second quarter, but there the home team got going. Torrey Brittingham would begin to operate the offense, and find Ja’ron Johnson for a couple threes, Ryan Beach would also connect from distance. They would out-score the rams in that quarter 25-9 to take a lead into the break. Decatur continued to push in the 3rd as their bigs got going. Keve Aluma controlled the paint, coming up with several blocks and easy lay ins, while DaQuan Andrews was making his presence felt as well, coming up with several rebounds. Parkside would go on a run to open the 4th quarter, as Xavier Waters would string together a couple baskets, but it was never enough to overcome the deficit.
Decatur returns to work on Tuesday when they travel to play at Wi-Hi, while the Rams will face Washington on Tuesday.
