Cosby honorary degree under review at UMES

Bill Cosby’s honorary degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is under review in light of his recent criminal charges brought against him for sexual assault allegations.
In 1998, Dr. Cosby received the honorary degree from the school. We’re told only the University System of Maryland’s governing board can rescind a degree.
In a statement to 47 ABC, UMES’ president Dr. Juliette Bell says, “We are dismayed at the recent charges and will continue to assess our options, one of which is to recommend that the Board rescind the honorary degree.”
Once UMES’ in house review is complete, and if a recommendation to rescind is made, it would go to the Board of Regents for review and possibly action.
