Community reacts to alleged brutal murder in Laurel

“That’s pretty sick, to kill your own mother like that,” and “When I heard about it was just a big shock.” were the responses given to 47 ABC when asking Laurel’s West 6th Street residents about 25-year-old Dukinson Appolon’s alleged murder of his mother, 61-year-old Yolanda Georges.
“I couldn’t believe it. A lot of people we went to school with still can’t believe it,” said Jerry Henry, a former classmate and current neighbor of Appolon.
According to Delaware State Police, 25-year-old Dukinson Appolon attacked his mother, 61-year-old Yolanda Geroges with a machete on Wednesday, January 7th.
Court documents obtained by 47 ABC state that Georges was nearly decapitated when she was found by family members in the home she shared with her son. The machete was found in Appolon’s upstairs bedroom apartment.
“He was just a cool guy. He kept himself looking good. He was always the guy to be around, he was a funny kid, and “In the band, and musical-wise, he was real talented.” said Henry.
Appolon was already in custody when investigators found Geroges’ body. Earlier that day, reports of a suspicious person in Delmar led Police to Appolon.
Officials say he was walking down the street, covered in blood, and when they approached him he reportedly began stabbing himself in the neck with a pen. We’re told a trooper had to use his taser to prevent Appolon from hurting himself.
According to court documents, he later admitted to the a crime, saying that he quote “killed his mom”. The apparent bizarre series of events are now causing a longtime resident to consider moving.
“Over the past couple years, this whole development has been getting worse and worse,” said a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous.
Appolon now faces first degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony charges. He is being held without bond.
