Bomb threats leave lasting effects in Worcester County

The snow may have melted, but the chilling effects of January’s bomb threats are still being felt in Worcester County. The five bomb threats forcing students not only to lose education time, but also peace of mind.
“I think our staff are little on edge, our kids, our parents are on edge,” said Dr. Jerry Wilson, superintendent for Worcester County.
Three bomb threats were called into Stephen Decatur High School, one was called into Ocean City Elementary, and one was called into the Board of Education forcing school officials to call for a district wide evacuation.
“It’s disrupted (us) in that we’ve lost some instructional time, in some instances critical instruction time especially for our high school students,” Wilson said.
For Decatur students, the bomb threats interrupted High School Assessment testing and also forced them to miss key instructional time a week before their final exams.
Despite that, Wilson said final exams are still going to go as planned.
Emotionally though for the kids in the district, one Snow Hill Middle School parent said the knowledge that their school system was threatened has left a lasting mark.
“My children were terrified along with every other child and it’s a sense they’ve lost some innocence and that’s tragic cause you can’t rewind time,” said Christina Huslander.
Authorities tell 47 ABC that no bomb was ever found in any of these instances.
