Assessing damage in Indian River Inlet

Officials toured two Sussex County spots on Monday to assess what kind of potential damage the winter storm may have caused.

According to Senator Carper, the dune system at the Indian River Inlet Bridge is still in tact and is doing it’s job.

He says the area near the Indian River Inlet Bridge sustained winds of 50 knots for about 24 hours, plus wind gusts of about 75 miles per hour.

Senator Carper says it took just as much of a direct hit as much as any other coastal spot.

“That dune system has held.” He says. “Its a fairly new one it’s robust. It did the job, it did cost a few bucks to build but it’s protecting a bridge, four land bridge, that’s worth a whole lot more.”

Senator Carper says the bridge costs about 100 million dollars.
