Alleged Rehoboth Beach burglar accuses homeowner of assault

Roberto Alfaro, 57, of Rehoboth Beach, Del.

An apparent burglar contacted Police himself, informing Officers that he was assaulted during the break-in.

Rehoboth Beach Police say on Thursday around 7:00 PM, 57-year-old Roberto Alfaro, arrived at the Police Department, reporting that he has been assaulted by a man who pointed a gun at him. Further information apparently revealed that Alfaro had broken a screen door at a home on Sixth Street, where he was then confronted by the resident, who told him to leave several times.

Police say when Alfaro did not leave, the victim grabbed a BB style pellet gun, and confronted Alfaro, once again telling him to leave. At that point, Investigators say Alfaro started advancing towards the victim, which started an altercation between the two. Alfaro apparently ended up with several injuries to his face.

Police say Alfaro, who was intoxicated, was arrested, and charged with burglary second, criminal trespass first degree, criminal mischief under $1,000, offensive touching, and disorderly conduct. He was then ordered to be held on a $7,500 bond at the Sussex Correctional Institute.

He is reportedly scheduled for an appearance in the Court of Common Pleas at a later date.
