Wicomico County to take closer look at chicken house zoning

A proposed plan for 13 chicken houses in Salisbury has caused Wicomico County to take a closer look at their zoning regulations.
The proposed chicken houses would go near the intersection of Naylor Mill road and North West road, right near Bennett Airport.
Tuesday the county council discussed the proposed chicken houses in a work session and took public comments.
With the proposed chicken houses only being less than a mile from residential area’s, health concerns were something that was brought up.
’13 houses is going to emit ammonia from the houses, there will be particulates being exhausted through those big exhaust fans that include some of the litter, the dust from inside the house, ” said Kathy Phillips, executive director for Assateague Coastal Trust.
Wicomico County Council president John Cannon says a decision won’t be reached until mid January at the earliest, but says work session was extremely productive in gaining more insight on the matter.
