Wicomico County public schools cancels all field trips to Baltimore City

In a statement from Superintendent of Schools, Dr. John Fredericksen announced that field trips  from Wicomico County Public Schools to Baltimore City will be cancelled for the remainder of this week due to the possibility of civil unrest.

The jury is deliberating in the trial of the first police officer charged in the death of Freddie Gray.

Out of concern for the safety and security of Wicomico students, the school system has elected to cancel any field trips this week that would have placed students in Baltimore City.

So far the only scheduled Wicomico field trip was for Fruitland Intermediate students, who had planned to visit the National Aquarium on Wednesday.

In addition, Wicomico schools will be close for the winter holiday break at the end of the school day Friday, Dec. 18.
