Wi-Hi Guts Out Win Late vs. Polytech

Wi-Hi was able to pull out a win late over Polytech in both teams first game in this years Governor’s Challenge 62-58. The Panthers would play a strong first quarter and take a lead into the 2nd.

There Barry Gaines Jr. took over in the second quarter and would help lead the Tribe to a 9 point halftime lead. The back and forth game continued as Chase Chappell would lead the charge for the Panthers as they would grab a 4 point lead with 3 minutes to go in the contest. There Cory Jones would come up with the biggest plays in the game, getting a steal and a finish at the other end. Then followed it up with another steal and a and 1 finish. Polytech would fight to back within a basket, but the Indians would hit their free throws down the stretch to ice the game. Chappell ended with 14 points for Poly, while Cody Daivs added 12 points, Zach Smith scored 13 and Camron Satchell added 11. Wi-Hi was led by Corey Jones’s 12 points, followed by Devanta Dixon’s 12 points and Barry Gaines’s 14 points and 16 rebounds. 

Wi-Hi will now face Caesar Rodney, while Polytech will play Kent County.
