What to do if you receive suspicious package

With tens of millions of packages being sent all over the country each day – especially during the holiday season – many people end up with suspicious packages on their doorstep.

So what should you do in the situation that this happens to you?

47ABC talked to Cambridge Police Chief Daniel Dvorak to get some tips.

First and foremost, leave it alone.  Don’t touch it and notify law enforcement immediately.  This is especially true if you are not expecting a package at all.  However this time of year many people are expecting packages – but if something seems off about it – it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Chief Dvorak says that any suspicious package is a concern and that anything can be inside.  Usually the biggest source for a suspicious package is something that was purchased with a stolen credit card and sent to an innocent house for the thief to pick up.  Chief Dvorak also mentions that many times it can just be a simple mistake such as the wrong address – but that you can never be too safe.
