State seeks input on future water crossings in Hampton Roads

(AP) – The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking public input on plans for the future water crossings in Hampton Roads.

Multiple media outlets report VDOT will share the options at a public open house meetings Wednesday and Thursday.

The department is looking to revise a 2001 Hampton Roads Crossing Study, which determined that a third crossing connecting South Hampton Roads and the Peninsula was the preferred choice to relieve congestion in the area.

VDOT spokeswoman Paula Miller says the department will go back to the drawing board and look at previous options and a new option on equal footing.

Residents will be able to share their thoughts at the meetings. The feedback will be used to help decide which options should go through detailed traffic, engineering and environmental analysis.
