Shop with a cop

For the first time ever on the Eastern Shore Maryland Natural Resources Police partnered up with New Dimensions Ministries Saturday to do a Shop With a Cop event.

Around 9 AM each child met their personal shopping buddy.

Then after a quick tour of the police vehicles they were off to Wal-Mart to shop.

The Fraternal Order of Police provided each child with $100 to spend on whatever they wanted to.

With police in the national spotlight for things such as excessive use of force and alleged shootings. Officers say this was an opportunity for them to show that they’re not defined by a few bad eggs.

“It’s good to get out and get out in the community kinda let our guard down a little bit for the day, not only with the kids but the feedback we got from other shoppers in Wal-Mart,” said Cpl. Troy Brimer. “Kind of show the public we’re more than just writing tickets and warnings and enforcing the laws.”

Maryland Natural Resource Police say the plan to continue this event for years to come.
