Sen. Carper weighs in on gun research ban

Close to 20 years ago in 1996, legislation banned the U.S. government from funding research pertaining to gun violence.

Prior to Wednesday’s shooting in San Bernardino, a group of physicians urged Congress to consider putting an end to the ban.

Reports say President Obama urged the CDC to conduct research following the Sandy Hook shooting, however, that apparently never took place.

We asked Delaware Senator Tom Carper today about his take on the situation and what needs to happen in Washington.

“We need to set aside the partisanship and the politics and find out what we agree on with respect to guns.”

The Senate shot down legislation proposing more background checks with a 50-47 vote.
