SBA to close disaster centers

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced Monday that they’ll be closing their disaster loan outreach centers in Crisfield, Maryland and Melfa, Virginia.

Officials say the centers will shut their doors at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The temporary centers were set up so folks could apply for low-interest loans for damages as a result of Hurricane Sandy with customer service representatives.

John Frederick, a public affairs specialist with SBA says, “People get intimidated or they see that ‘B’ in the middle of our acronym and they think that we’re only for businesses. We’re not only for businesses. We’re for businesses, homeowners, renters and non-profits. If you fit any of those categories and you were affected by Hurricane Sandy and you didn’t apply back in 2012 and 2013, here’s your opportunity to go back and see if you can get some federal aid.”

Although the physical centers are closing, applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application through the SBA’s website.

The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage and economic injury applications is December 1st 2016.
