Princess Anne man arrested after a month long investigation

James Powell (34)

Troopers in Princess Anne say they charged a man today, following almost a month long investigation, after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars from his church.

Investigators say 34-year-old James Powell who was the treasurer at Quindocqua United Methodist Church, apparently wrote himself several checks in the church’s name.

Police say all-in-all, almost $17,000.00 was embezzled from the church and put into Powell’s name just between April and November of this year.

According to troopers, further review of the church’s bank account showed that Powell had also made payments to his Chase Visa Credit Card and American Express Card.

Police say Powell eventually confessed to the crime and was charged with embezzlement, theft, and theft scheme among other charges.
