Pocomoke Battles But Falls Short vs. Battlefield

The Pocomoke boys basketball team was handed their 2nd loss of the Governor's Challenge Wednesday when they fell to Battlefield 67-60. The Warriors will now return to their regular season play.
Pocomoke came out of the gates in the first quarter hot. Tyler Nixon would help run their offense, finding Jerry Satchell underneath as he would score all 10 of his points in the first half. Tyrone Matthews would also get into the mix, coming up with a couple steals and getting some easy scores in transition. Battlefield though would battle back in the second quarter, and take the lead by halftime. The teams continued to exchange baskets in the third as Pocomoke was able to cut the deficit to just 1, before Battlefield would drill a corner three at the buzzer headed to the games final frame. There, Nixon would again get his team back within in a bucket, and with 2 minutes left they would get a rebound underneath their own basket and call timeout. The refs then made a mistake coming out of the break by giving the ball to Battlefield, who in-bounded it before Pocomoke was able to get back to defend their basket. The Warriors would then push back, and Matthews would score a lay in to cut the deficit back to just 2. But that's as close as they would get. Free throws and a couple missed 3 pointers down the stretch would give Battlefield the win.
