Overnight burglary investigation underway in Crisfield

A restaurant in Crisfield has apparently beefed up security, after they were reportedly burglarized overnight.

The Crisfield Police Department says on Wednesday morning, Officers responded to the Water’s Edge Restaurant on West Main Street, for reports of an overnight burglary. Once on scene, Police say they learned that someone had forced their way into the establishment, through a back screen door, and had stolen cash registers with the next day’s startup cash inside.

According to the report, the suspect apparently cut the screen to get into the restaurant’s kitchen, which reportedly didn’t have an alarm system. The thief then, according to authorities, made their way to to the registers, took both, and left, without disturbing anything else in the place.

Crisfield Police say they were assisted by the Maryland State Police Crime lab, who were able to recover fingerprints and DNA at the scene. Police say they have brought in two people of interest for questioning, but details remain limited.

Water’s Edge has apparently increased security since the incident, by installing new steel doors, and an alarm system.

Police say the investigation into the case is on-going, but that they believe the theft happened between 4:00 PM on Tuesday, and 7:00 AM on Wednesday. Anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area of the restaurant during that time frame, is asked to contact the Crisfield Police Department, Detective Ralph Oakes at 410-968-1323.
