MSP seize handgun during traffic stop

Members of the Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack say they seized a handgun from Terence Tyrique Mitchel, 30, during a traffic stop around 3:30 P.M. Thursday.

Troopers say they stopped Mitchel for going over the speed limit on Route 113, and subsequently found that Mitchel was in violation of the vehicle’s rental agreement and reportedly found that he possessed a suspended driver license.

According to a press release, Troopers saw the situation as suspicious, and brought in K-9 from Berlin Police Department to scan the vehicle.  Police say the K-9 alerted positive for the presence of the odor of illegal narcotics.

Following that, Troopers say a search was conducted which revealed a loaded semi-automatic handgun, and Controlled Dangerous Substances.

According to Troopers, Mitchel was arrested and charged with several weapons violations and drug charges.
