Mexican Consulate mobile service visits Salisbury

The Mexican Consulate from D.C. took a trip to Francis de Sales Church in Salisbury to make it more convenient for Mexican citizens on the Eastern Shore to obtain Mexican passports for the first time, renew them, as well as obtain Mexican ID’s known as “matriculas.”
Lourdes Chavez, from the Mexican Consulate says, “We come in our van. And we are the consulate that we are in Washington. We travel to some places in Maryland, Virginia, and Virginia Beach.”
Lourdes Chavez tells us this service beneficial for those on Delmarva who can’t make the drive up to D.C.
“Save them a trip because some people doesn’t have a car or they work,” says Chavez
However, this wasn’t always the case. The Mexican consulate started coming to the Eastern Shore only recently. Consulate staff and local community members did research about areas with high concentrations of Mexican citizens who needed these services.
“To the Mexican stores, the churches, the schools, and there was a consistency in the population so we decided to come here,” said Chavez.
One Salisbury woman came in today to take advantage. of the services.
Rosa Raldaña, a Salisbury resident says, “They have really good service, and I came to renew my passport and ask about dual citizenship for my children.”
Rosa Raldaña is one of the citizens who will be receiving the new passports that have new security features such as holograms as well as various images in the background. The Consulate tells us the old Mexican passports are still good as long as they are not expired. The Mexican Consulate will be in Salisbury until Sunday.
