Locals explain agricultural concerns in during economic forecast

During the 28th annual Lower Shore Economic Forecast, panelists representing tourism, agriculture, healthcare, technology and entrepreneurship discussed potential economic challenges in the future. One of the biggest concerns seems to be in agriculture.
James McNaughton, the president of AHPharma in Salisbury, presented the difficulties faced with the phosphorus management tool.
He believes young crops won’t get the phosphorus they need with the tool. He says farmers will need to stir soil more than they have in the past and reduce no- till farming. McNaughton says that style of farming has been very beneficial to the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay.
McNaughton goes on, “I hope our political officials will start looking at the regulations and where we can tweak it to not only protect the bay, but also to protect a major industry. That’s going to be important to us.”
