Legislator offers unconventional heroin addiction solution

Dr. Dan Morhaim, a delegate representing the 11th District in Baltimore County, says he wants the government to provide free heroin for hard core addicts.

Dr. Morhaim spoke at the International Drug Policy Reform Conference in November.  He cites the non-conventional solution as better than the crime being committed on a daily basis.  The idea is to bring addicts into contact with treatment workers in a sanitary environment along with cutting off the drug dealers.

Dr. Morhaim reportedly will propose the idea in the form of legislation next year.  However there will be hurdles to jump and almost certainly backlash – being that heroin is a schedule 1 drug.
