Joynes, Cook pace Mardela in win over Washington

The Mardela Warriors topped the Washington Jaguars 39-34 in the Governor’s Challenge tip-off at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center on Tuesday night.

Arieonna Joynes and Kayla Cook paced Mardela with 15 points a piece in the win. The Warriors held a 13-4 lead after the first quarter, but Washington put up 9-0 run to take a lead in the second, before Mardela hopped back on top 18-17 at the break. The Warriors would cruise to the win, holding Washington to 5 points in the fourth. Freshman Danasia Roberts paced the Jags with a game high 18, and senior guard Shira Hanna scored 6.
