House destroyed in early morning fire

A house was destroyed on the 1900 block of Old Kirkwood Road near Red Loin Road in Kirkwood, Del. after a fire started shortly before 3:00 AM Saturday morning. The home was not occupied at the time.

Delaware City Fire Company responded to the scene and found the home engulfed in flames. 

State fire investigators were called to the scene and are currently searching for the fire’s origin and cause. 

The damage is estimated at $100,000. 

Asst. State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio said that the house was in good condition before the home caught on fire. He was unable to say whether the one story home had been put on the market for sale.

Chionchio said they are currently trying to locate the property owners.
