First Lego League expands age group

As part of Stem-tastic Saturdays the First Lego League, or FLL, held their regional tournament Saturday at Salisbury Middle School.

The FLL incorporates L:egos, robotics and competition to get kids excited about learning science and technology.

For the first time ever the elementary school age group was added to the competition.
.
Officials say by adding younger kids to the event they are allowing more kids to get interested in the FLL earlier on.

Once they get interested though. officials say kids stay hooked.

“Proof is that we see middle school students coming back and helping the elementary school students and high school students helping the middle school students and even folks who have already graduated coming back and helping in tournament time and with teams,” David Harner, coordinator for secondary and stem initiatives for Wicomico County.

Officials say the turnout at the competition was great.

Winners from today’s competition will head to compete in the state competition at UMBC in January.
