DNREC says Delaware water conditions are improving

Delaware’s waters are on the mend according to new results gathered by DNREC.

Delaware Center for the Inlands bays DNREC said that dangerous phosphorous and nitrogen levels in the water are decreasing.

However they’re not where the Environmental Protection Agency wants them yet.

“We’re reducing but we still have a long way to go. We have a lot of phosphorous in our soils ,we have nitrogen that’s in our ground water from our past practices and we still need to deal with those sources as well,” said John Schneider, environmental administrator for DNREC.

DNREC says farmers and those who work on their lawn need to fertilize properly to
ensure that phosphorous and nitrogen levels continue to drop .

That means fertilizing at the beginning of the season and using the right amount of fertilizer

DNREC says that if the downward trends continue that fish and wildlife in the area should see a rise.
