Devin Martin’s Career Night Pushes Hawks Past Central Penn

The UMES men’s basketball team took the hardwood on Tuesday night looking to string together consecutive wins for the first time this season while taking on Central Penn. The Hawks defeated American University on Sunday night with Devin Martin leading the way with a career-high 36 points, and on Tuesday night, Martin was in the mood for another career night.

Martin helped the Hawks jump out to a big lead throughout the first half, and he’d continue to put points on the board throughout the second half as well. The Baltimore native shot 14-18 from the field tonight and also had 10 rebounds for a double-double. However, Martin was not the only one with a double-double – three UMES players notched double-doubles in tonight’s match up – Derrico Peck threw down a couple of nice dunks to help him put down 14 points along with 10 rebounds and Bakari Copeland added another 11 points and 10 boards himself.

The Hawks managed to grab a 53-34 lead at halftime, and got past the century mark for the first time this season with the 115-86 win over the Knights.

The Hawks enter Christmas break on a two-game win streak and they’ll be back on the court to start another 4-game road stretch of away games starting in Philadelphia Tuesday, December 29 against St. Joseph’s.
