City of Salisbury taking lead in NYE planning

Monday marks just four days away from a brand new year and if you’re not interested in traveling all the way to New York to watch the ball drop, there are a number of ways to ring in the new year that are close to home.
One of those events is in the city of Salisbury. The celebration is still happening downtown, but the center of the action moves about two blocks south this year to Headquarters Live on Division Street.
We’re told another new feature is an expanded area for alcohol consumption; however, the event is still family-friendly so kids are welcome to join in the fun.
Julia Glanz, an assistant city administrator for Salisbury, says this free event includes live music along with another special surprise this year.
“This is the first year we are having fireworks, so we are very excited for that at midnight…strike of midnight, we’ll be having a ten minute show go off so it’s something new and we’re very excited for that event.” Says Glanz.
When you come downtown, city officials say folks are encouraged to park in the garage next to Headquarters Live plus Lot One, which is next to the public library.
The following roads will also be closed to through traffic from 11pm to 12:15am:
– Riverside Drive from the Mill Street intersection to Wicomico Street
– Mill Street between Riverside Drive and West Main Street
– Carroll Street between Mill Street and Circle Avenue
– Camden Ave from Mill Street to Newton Street
Participating food trucks also include: Berk’s Hot Dogs, Big Al’s Grill, Main Roots Coffee, Phat Boyz BBQ, Big Thunder Roadside Kitchen, Mama Mia’s and Drift’n Kitchen Truck.
