Busiest day for Santa’s unsung heroes

Santa’s unsung heroes are hard at work at the Salisbury post office. Workers are packaging, taping, stamping packages and letters to mail them in time for Christmas Day.
Ann Brady, the Post Master at the USPS in Salisbury says ,”This day we have over 600 million cards, letters, parcels that are sent out. Letters to Santa. The kids are sending a lot of letters to Santa.”
December 14th, ten days before Christmas Eve is on average the busiest day for United State’s Postal Service. Ann Brady tells us there is certainly an up tick in traffic this year. This was definitely evident from the packed parking lot outside to the long line inside. Nationwide, USPS estimates more than 7 million customers dropped off mail Monday. Gary Cornelius from Salisbury, is one of the 7 million who is sending this present to his family in Texas.
“I figured we might need a couple days to mail it early so she can get this Christmas present,”says Cornelius.
Gary Cornelius may not be waiting until the last minute to send his packages ,but Brady tells 47 ABC post offices will have extended hours in the coming days to ensure Christmas deliveries. There are things you can do before getting to the post office which can save you time and frustration.
“Make sure you have a strong and sturdy box, you want to make sure you have plenty of cushioning in there, if it’s fragile you should mark it fragile,” says Brady.
In this busy time, anything you can do to help Santa and his busy elves will help in the long run.
