Adopt-A-Block receives big donations and reveals plans for next year

In the final two weeks of 2015 Adopt-A-Block at Emmanuel Weseleyan Church in Salisbury received big donations and revealed big plans for 2016.
One of those large donations came from Affordable Business systems.
“They had 500 boxes of Macaroni and Cheese and we were able to receive this the day before Christmas Eve, they came over and delivered these boxes and these mac and cheese boxes go such a long way with family,” said Pastor Mark Thompson, who runs the program.
The mac and cheese donation goes such a long way because Adopt-A-Block goes out to the Church Street area of Salisbury every other week and provides food and clothing to families in need.
Starting January though the organization will try something new Thompson said.
“We’re going to bring back the residents of that community to what we have now called a close closet,” Thompson said.
As Thompson explains they aren’t a thrift store, they just follow their mission statement of finding a need a filing it.
Thompson said that by bringing people to their clothes closet, family’s can browse their selection and try on clothes and pick out the items they really want.
However, that’s not all Adopt a Block has planned for the new year.
“We’re even looking at purchasing a store down there on the corner that we can actually start, we want to clean up drugs we want to give people hope and let them see something that’s positive,” Thompson said.
What Thompson says they need the most are are financial donations, to both pay for the food they purchase from the Maryland Food Bank and for a new paint job for the bus they will use to transport families to the clothes closet.
