A “miniature” Christmas wonderland

Tucked away in Lewes, Del. is a Christmas wonderland, well a miniature Christmas wonderland, that everybody should see at least once. It’s called the Edwards Christmas Village and it’s a culmination of 24 years of collected, hand built and gifted miniature buildings and scenes.

First open to the public in 2012, owner David Edwards said it first started as a hobby.

“My wife and I first started doing this about 24 years ago, it started off I saw some houses at the Lowes and I thought I’d like to have some,” Edwards said.

Over the years the collection grew and grew to where it is now, a shed built specifically for housing these miniature buildings.

Admission is free, but donations to Jusst Soupp are accepted, as well as canned goods and personal items.

Last year Edwards said they got over 300 dollars in cash and more than 300 cans. This year he said, they’re doing even better.

The Christmas wonderland is located in the backyard of the Edwards’ house, but the Edwards family treats you like you’re a guest. They have free food and drinks for you to enjoy, including items such as the “clown dog”, a hot dog with peanut butter, and “Russian Tea” a concoction of sweet tea mixed with other spices and more.

It costs the Edwards roughly $1,000 a year, but Edwards tells 47 ABC they don’t mind spending the money, they just want to give back.

“We like sharing with other people, its especially neat to see through a child’s eyes for the first time,” Edwards said.

Time is running out this season, there are only two more days, Dec. 11 and 12 from 5 PM to 9 PM.
