Wildcats hold on to run away from Pandas’ to semifinal

The Delmar Wildcats field hockey team pulled out a defensive battle, defeating Padua 1-0 in the quarterfinal round of the DIAA state tournament.

A defensive battle throughout, the Wildcats broke through with 12:07 to go in the second half, when sophomore Peyton Kemp took a breakaway all the way past the charging Pandas keeper, and fired one on an angle into the back of the cage. The Delmar defense, led by goalie Aubrey Jones, would preserve the lead, and hold on to win.

The victory moves the third seeded ‘Cats to the state semifinal round, where they win take on two seed Wilmington Christian, who defeated Dover 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
