Washington College President reaches out to fugitive student

The president of Washington College has sent a message to Jacob Marberger, the man wanted by police after a reported gun threat.

President Sheila Bair said on Facebook: “Jacob: We know these past few days must have been extremely stressful for you. We’re asking you to contact your parents and let them know that you’re safe. Your family misses you. Your friends in the Washington College community are worried about you and want to see you home safe and sound. Please get in touch with them.”

This note comes after the school was closed until after Thanksgiving out of safety concerns. Earlier this week, officials said Marberger was suspended from school after it was found he possibly had an unloaded handgun on campus while he was drunk. School public safety officials say that they then got word that Marberger returned home on Monday morning and a gun was possibly removed from the house. That’s when the school was placed on lockdown.

Reports say Marberger is wanted by police on four charges.

Also announced Thursday, Washington College Alumni say they set up a GoFundMe account, that account has since been deleted.
