Upset City! SU Tops No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan

The Salisbury University men’s basketball team had their home opener Tuesday and pulled off a huge upset, topping No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan 71-60. The win improves the Sea Gulls to 5-0 on the year.

Salisbury would use a strong defensive effort in the first half as they grinded out a 7 point half time lead. The offense got going for the home team in the second half. The Sea Gulls used a balanced effort off hot outside shooting from Justin Witmer and Kyle Savercool who both finished in double figures with 13 and 12 points respectively. Once the defense had to extend to the shooters, the lane opened up for Gordon Jeter, and the Easton grad would take advantage. He would operate on the block and the high post, routinely getting to the rim on his way to a game high 14 points. The lead would stretch to over 20 before a late run by the Marlins. SU would be able to close it out for the win though.

Salisbury returns to work on December 2nd when they travel to Christopher Newport.
