UPDATE: Washington College student previously suspended following October gun incident

Washington College is closed through Wednesday, after new information was reportedly received by law enforcement.
According to the College’s Twitter account, around 9:15 AM on Tuesday, law enforcement received new information, leading to the decision to once again cancel classes. Officials say they did not have this information on Monday evening, when they stated that the College would re-open on Tuesday. In a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Officials announced that the campus would remain closed on Wednesday.
There is now apparently a warrant out for the arrest of Jacob Marberger, who was only considered a missing person on Monday. Officials say that there is a high-intensity search underway, by both State and Federal law enforcement.
Washington College Officials say students returned to their residence halls, but have since been allowed to return home. As of 1:00 PM, Officials say there were about sixty students who were still on campus. Those who live off campus, were asked to stay off-campus, or return home. Faculty and staff were initially asked to stay in their offices, but have also since been permitted to leave campus. Student and staff reportedly received a WACAlert about the situation.
All afternoon and evening activities on campus, have been cancelled.
The College says there have not been any direct threats against the campus, or any one of the community, but they feel closing campus is the best course of action. Officials are asking anyone who has any contact with Jacob Marberger, to speak with law enforcement immediately.
Campus was locked down on Monday, after the parents of Marberger contacted the school, after Marberger reportedly returned home, and left with a firearm. Marberger had reportedly not been seen since, but is believed to be driving a 1997 dark green Land Rover with a Pennsylvania license plate beginning with the letters “JYW.” He is described as a 5’4 male, weighing approximately 130 pounds with light skin and curly brown hair.
At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the school says Marberger returned to campus last week after facing a temporary suspension. This is the disciplinary action he faced, after an investigation revealed he had an antique handgun on campus back on October 9, but the school was apparently not made aware of this, until an anonymous tip was received on October 23, which led them to investigate.
There was reportedly no evidence at first, so the case was open but inactive, but on October 27 officials reportedly received more credible information, that led them to find that handgun at on off-campus, residence on the October 29.
They later found the handgun to be unloaded, but Marberger and others were reportedly questioned, which ultimately led the school to temporarily suspend him. His parents were told he could not return to campus, until a forensic evaluation was completed.
Jerry Roderick, of Washington College Public Safety, tells 47 ABC “and so when we got the information that he in fact returned home in the morning hours of Monday, and a gun was possibly removed from the house, we took immediate steps to lock the campus until we can get a better understanding of what was going on with him. These are all precautionary measures but given the history, we have reason to believe that we needed to take these steps.”
47 ABC’s Lili Zheng will have more, tonight at 10 and 11.
